A NEW library has officially opened in Durrington.

The library has been relocated to the Robinson Room at Durrington Village Hall, a much-anticipated feat made possible by Wiltshire Council.

The previous location was a well-used portacabin which had reached the end of its structural life.

The new home will help to preserve the future of the library and the essential services that it provides to local residents.

Councillor Ian Blair-Pilling, Wiltshire Council Cabinet Member for Libraries, said: “An important part of our Business Plan is to support people to keep physically, socially and mentally active and our library service is playing a central role in helping us achieve that."

He added: "Our dedicated team look forward to welcoming people through the doors.”

The official opening ceremony took place on Tuesday, March 28, and was attended by representatives of Wiltshire Council as well as staff and volunteers.

Ribbon-cutting duties were performed by Library Volunteer, Christine Phelps.

The new library has moveable shelving, a colourful children’s area, as well as space for computers and a self-service kiosk plus ample parking and good toilet facilities.

The Robinson Room will continue to be used flexibly for meetings and events outside of library opening hours.Salisbury Journal:

The opening hours at Durrington Library remain unchanged:

  • Monday: 10am to 5pm
  • Tuesday: closed
  • Wednesday: 10am to 5pm
  • Thursday: closed
  • Friday: 10am to 5pm
  • Saturday: 10am to 1pm

Cllr Graham Wright, Chairman of Durrington Town Council said: “I’m so proud to be part of the team that provided a long-term solution for our community, as essential services are vital to village life.
