THE SALISBURY River Park Project has moved on to its next stage.
This includes designing and constructing a new play area in the Ashley Road Open Space which will be designed around a river ecology theme.
It will be a "fun and stimulating environment" which will also provide educational opportunities.
The plans were discussed at the Salisbury City Council meeting on Monday evening, and (March 13) the council were keen to ensure accessibility had been considered throughout the design.
Salisbury River Park Project Lead, Andy Wallis said: “There is a path that meanders through the park reflecting the local river system. This also divides the park into different zones.
“There are more active areas with a zip wire, swings, slides and an adventure course, as well as quiet zones with sculptures and seating areas. There will be higher sensory spaces, as well as separate lower sensory zones.”

Accessibility has been considered throughout the design and there will be an area suitable for all to use if they wish to.
Andy said: “The main flagship item, which will involve dens, climbing, higher walkways and slides is taking inspiration from a water vole burrow. We are also working with a local artist on the design of the play area, and looking at opportunities to include sculptures, carving, and interactive displays.”

A new Multi-Use Games Area on Fisherton Recreation Ground will also be constructed. This design is still at an early stage and those behind the project have said discussions with local groups would be useful.
The area will be bigger than previously with the size of half a court area with a football goal and basketball hoop and the plan is to have a number of benches around the games area to allow for spectators. Other elements are also being considered.
The design for all the facilities will be finalised over the next two months with the intention to have the playscape constructed at the end of the year.
