FOR THE first time, a charity has committed to a sporting event in Salisbury and is hoping to find a team of runners to don its vest and raise funds to help the homeless.

Alabare has committed to the half marathon event organised by Trethowans and the event will take place around the streets of Salisbury and through parts of the Chalke Valley.

Corporate fundraiser for Alabare, Kathryn Furnell said: “We hope to attract local runners who wish to tackle a half marathon for the first time - they are the people who are most likely to get the fundraising support they need from friends and family to reach and even exceed the fundraising target”.

“Of course, we’d like keen athletes too and having the winner cross the line in an Alabaré vest would be the dream.”

There is a £20 registration fee required at the sign-up stage and runners are asked to raise at least £200.

In return, they will receive an Alabare running vest, access to training plans, a sponsorship form and ‘I’m Taking Part’ image to share on social media channels.

Participants can also gain a 20 per cent discount on the kit needed for the run from Mountain Warehouse in Salisbury.

Alabaré Christian Care and Support have been supporting disadvantaged and marginalised adults and young people for over 30 years and the charity has provided over 78 homes and services throughout the south of England and Wales and supports clients in education, training, and employment.

The Trethowans Salisbury Marafun will take place on Sunday, October 8 2023
