A WOMAN was left with black eyes and a bloodied nose after tripping over a raised drain over the weekend.
Maria Knight, 51, was out walking her dog on Wain-A-Long Road on Saturday, February 4, when she tripped over the drain.
She suffered from two black eyes, a bloodied nose, a cut lip and cut knee and bruises.
Maria said: “I was walking the dog with my partner, and I just tripped over the drain. I went down so hard on my face. It was awful.
“I had to sit on the pavement for 15 or 20 minutes before I could move. I was really shaking.
"I thought I had broken my nose and chipped a tooth, but I was just bleeding a lot. Now a few days on, I am really aching in my arms and shoulders.”

Several neighbours stopped to check on her while she was sitting recovering on the pavement.
Maria and her partner took a photo of the drain and immediately informed Wessex Water that the raised drain was dangerous and explained what had happened. They informed her they would send out a compensation form.

A Wessex Water spokesperson said: “We were sorry to hear that a member of the public has injured herself and we wish her a speedy recovery.
“We were not informed that the stop tap cover had any defect before this incident, so we're looking into the circumstances surrounding what's happened and have been directly in contact with the member of the public.”
Maria told the Journal today (Wednesday, February 8) that she is not going to receive any compensation.
Since the accident, the drain has been put back in place but someone has placed a road cone on it so people are aware of the possible dangers.
Leader of Wiltshire Council, Councillor Richard Clewer, said: “As Local Highway Authority, we have a responsibility for the maintenance and safety of pavements and our officers are liaising with Wessex Water to ensure they make the area safe."
