AN INQUIRY into plans for 86 new homes and a new care home in Tisbury will take place later this month.

It comes after Wiltshire Council failed to decide on the application, which was submitted in 2021.

An outline planning application was submitted in 2021 for the redevelopment of the Station Works site in Tisbury.

The application has been called-in by councillor Nick Errington, after the applicants - Tisbury Community Homes - formally appealed against non-determination of the application.

The application consists of a mixed development of up to 86 dwellings, a care home of up to 40 bedspaces with associated medical facilities, new pedestrian and vehicular access and traffic management works, a safeguarded area for any future rail improvements, and areas of public open space.

Tisbury Community Homes said the Station Road development proposed would replace an "existing outdated employment site" and provide 86 new homes to meet the local need in the area.

Salisbury Journal:

It added: "The Station Works site has largely been vacated by all but two businesses, and the site has, for some time, become a visual blot on the landscape and townscape of Tisbury.

"It is clear from the Tisbury Neighbourhood Plan that the Parish Council, Wiltshire Council, and local residents and businesses in Tisbury, wish to see the site redeveloped to provide much-needed housing and jobs, as well as creating an attractive development within the village."

86 per cent of the properties would be houses while 14 per cent would be flats.

There would be a mix of one and two-bedroom flats up to four-bedroom family homes and two and three-bedroom homes, according to the website.

Tisbury Parish Council has opposed the plans, calling the application "inadequate". West Tisbury Parish Council has also objected on the grounds of scale and density, lack of mixed use, availability of affordable housing, and pedestrian, cycle and vehicular access.

It added: "West Tisbury Parish Council also consider that too many key issues are reserved, and fear for the impact on Tisbury’s infrastructure without suitable contributions."

The inquiry will be held in the Marlborough Room, Red Lion Hotel, 4 Milford Street, Salisbury, opening on February 21 at 10am with the facility to participate virtually.

Members of the public may attend the inquiry and, at the Inspector’s discretion, express their views.
