THREE Salisbury people have been recognised in this year's New Year's Honours list.

Recipients in the list have been awarded for their outstanding contributions across all parts of the UK for their work in areas including sustained public service, youth engagement and community work.

Madeleine Lola Margaret The Countess of Bessborough OBE has been made a Commander of the Order of the British Empire (CBE) for services to Art, to Art Education and to Salisbury Cathedral.

Lady Bessborough received an OBE for services to the visual arts in 2010.

Rachel Hick, the deputy head of the finance team at the Ministry of Defence, has been awarded an OBE.

Patrick Liam Bradley, the chief executive officer at the Swindon and Wiltshire Local Enterprise Partnership, has been given an MBE for services to the Local Economy and to the community in Wiltshire.

He said he is "delighted" with the award, which he said was a big honour for him, his family, and for the SWLEP itself.

Paddy joins several other members of the SWLEP board that have honours - its chair, Paul Moorby, has an OBE, as does Andrew Gudgeon.

Paddy said: "I was delighted. I am the only person in my family to have received an honour."

Derek James, Deputy Chief Fire Officer, Dorset and Wiltshire Fire and Rescue Service, has also received the The King's Fire Service Medal for Distinguished Service.

Elsewhere in the county, Wiltshire councillor Helen Belcher has been awarded an OBE for services to the transgender community.

Helen is a trustee of Trans Media Watch and a director of TransActual, an organisation "founded by a group of British trans people in 2017 as a response to increasing press hostility, transphobia and misinformation."

Elizabeth Anne Jackson, of Swindon, is Head of Space Exploration, at the UK Space Agency, and she has been honoured for her for services to the Space Sector.

Catherine Spencer of Pewsey is on the list for services to Seafarers. She is chief executive officer of the Seafarers Charity.
