A PUB is offering hot meals to people on Christmas Day, free of charge.

It comes just two days after a restaurant in the middle of Salisbury said it would give free meals to homeless people on its final day of trading before closing for the winter months

The Stonehenge Inn, on Stonehenge Road in Durrington, posted on Facebook on Wednesday night (December 21), to make the offer.

It is for those that might be home alone, unwell, struggling financially or not physically able to cook.

At the time of writing, the post has been shared 150 times.

The pub told the Journal: "This year has been a extremely challenging for many people; no one has been immune from the economic situation we currently find ourselves in.

"Hospitality businesses have faced an overwhelming number of difficult challenges as the mass closures of businesses currently happening UK wide is demonstrating.

"We never know when we as publicans and local business owners may need the goodwill and support of others.

"Whilst we cannot change what is happening if we can make a small difference it will be worthwhile."

The team said that in the first eight hours of the Facebook post they had received many request for support, from elderly people at home alone, working serviceman and some who simply cannot absorb the cost of the oven on for a few hours.

They have also had emails from people offering to donate and offering to deliver the meals "which shows some of the best traits in humanity".

The pub added: "Anyone needing a little support in the SP4 area, or who wants to support our initiative in helping others this Christmas should message our Facebook page or email us at admin@mini-rocks.couk and we will help where we can."
