A diverse group of locals have come together to donate presents for Salisbury Salvation Army's Christmas Gift Appeal.

The annual appeal invites people to give new, unwrapped gifts to the charity so that they can be handed out to children who might not otherwise get a Christmas present.

On Christmas Eve, teams of health visitors, family workers, housing welfare officers, and social workers will deliver presents to people they know need some extra help.

Presents can be dropped off in the foyer of the Salvation Army Hall in Salt Lane and staff will put them under the Christmas tree until they're ready to be delivered.

Carpenter Brian makes wooden toys all year round as Christmas gifts for children who won't have much in their stocking.

He creates individual toys which are both unique and built to last for another generation.

Clarendon Juniors Football club decided this year to organise presents for the appeal instead of its usual secret Santa.

Captain Martin Davison, leader of Salisbury Salvation Army, said: "We are so grateful for our community coming together in this way.

"We have witnessed all kinds of people coming through our doors, including young children wanting to give presents for other young people.

"It really has been quite moving to see in these challenging days."

The Salvation Army will be holding a Christmas day service at Salt Lane from 10am where carols will be sung.
