THE FINAL tree from the Queen’s Green Canopy (QGC) Tree of Trees initiative has been presented to the Harnham Water Meadows Trust at a special reception and planting ceremony by the Lord-Lieutenant of Wiltshire.
The alder tree (alnus glutinosa) stood outside of Buckingham Palace as part of the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee celebrations and formed a symbol of hope, regeneration, and optimism.
Three trees were awarded to Wiltshire and Swindon in total with two presented to volunteers from Swindon’s vaccination programme and to the John of Gaunt School.
The Lord-Lieutenant, Mrs Troughton said: "I am incredibly proud to be part of this project to honour Her late Majesty in our county.
"We have three very worthy recipients, and I was delighted to present the Harnham Water Meadows Trust with their tree, an Alnus glutinosa (alder) and I know it will be well looked after and cherished for many years to come.
“This is a lasting legacy created in Her late Majesty's name in Wiltshire."
The Trustees at Harnham Water Meadows Trust said: “We are absolutely delighted to have had the honour of being awarded with one of the saplings from the Tree of Trees to celebrate Her late Majesty The Queen’s Jubilee.”
