THE SALISBURY Rotary Fireworks event due to be held at the Racecourse this weekend has been cancelled due to safety issues.
It was due to take place this Saturday night (November 5).
A statement from the racecourse said that heavy rain (130mm/5 inches) in the last few days has left the majority of areas intended for use, saturated and waterlogged, with some further rain expected to come during Saturday daytime.
It said: “Unfortunately we have had to cancel our fireworks event. The grassed car parks and the lawns are absolutely waterlogged and would result in safety and welfare issues for the over 3,000 crowd that was expected.
"It was discussed at great length by the Event Planning Team on Thursday morning, and it was agreed that despite the disappointment of having to cancel, the conditions would have very likely resulted in a poor experience for everyone, and that is something absolutely to be avoided.
"The wet condition of the car parks in particular was of great concern, with just about everyone expected to be come by car. All tickets purchased so far will be fully refunded within the next 48 hours”.
