A TIP has announced shorter opening hours that will stay in place over the winter.

Salisbury Household Recycling Centre's opening hours will change from November 1.

The new hours will be from 10am to 4pm and the centre will be closed on Thursday and Friday each week.

The council said it is a temporary change during the winter months lasting until Tuesday, March 31.

Wiltshire Council cabinet member for waste, Cllr Dr Mark McClelland said: “Our Household Recycling Centres will continue to be available to assist and encourage people to recycle as much as possible right through the coming months, albeit on slightly different opening hours.

“In providing the HRCs we support residents to ensure Wiltshire is a place where we all take responsibility for the environment, as outlined in our business plan.”

He said that 176,000 tonnes of household waste were diverted from landfill in 2020-2021 equating to 81 per cent of the overall 217,389 tonnes of household waste managed.
