PLANS for 106 homes on land north of Netherhampton Road in Salisbury have been approved by planning chiefs despite concerns over making traffic problems worse.

Wiltshire Council’s Strategic Planning Committee met on October 5 at Salisbury and South Wilts Sports Club to discuss the plans submitted by Vistry Homes Limited.

The site consists of a field which borders the main A3094 (Netherhampton Road) and the proposal is for a single access point which leads onto the A3094.

It has been allocated in the Wiltshire Housing Sites Allocation plan.

The development will feature a mixture of houses, bungalows and flats with 4 per cent affordable housing provision proposed including rented and shared ownership homes.

Concerns raised during the meeting included increasing traffic, noise and pollution on an already busy road as well as flooding, transport and infrastructure.

Salisbury City councillors for Harnham West, Brian Dalton, who is also a Wiltshire councillor, Eleanor Mills and Annie Riddle, and the Wiltshire councillor for Wilton, Pauline Church spoke out against the plans.

The planning committee agreed to delegate to the head of development management to grant planning permission subject to conditions.
