A Salisbury pub has been named in the Great Pubs of England book and recognised for its antique and historical character.

Published by Prestel and written by Horst A. Friedrichs and Stuart Husband, the book features 33 of England's most distinguished inns.

The Haunch of Venison in Minster Street was so revered, it also made it onto the book's front cover.

The book will be sold all around the world and landlady Anastasia Samoylova and her husband say they were over the moon for their pub to be included.

She said: "When Horst A. Friedrichs and Stuart Husband contacted us we were rather surprised as we knew that Prestel is a very famous publisher in the fields of art, photography and lifestyle and it was an honour that they knew about our pub.

"Our team works tirelessly to look after the Haunch, to preserve the building for our future generations and help to attract more visitors to Salisbury.

"We would like to say a big thank you to Horst and Stuart, to our fantastic team for their hard work and dedication; to all of our customers from all over the world, because of them we are in this magnificent book!"

Anastasia added that not only is this great recognition for the pub but also for Salisbury as well.

Authors of the book, Horst and Stuart visited the Haunch of Venison on October 3 to interview Anastasia and her husband and take photos to highlight the "unspoiled and antique character" of the place.

The allegedly-haunted pub in Salisbury is within a Grade II listed building and dates back to 1320, making it more than 700 years old and is known for its many myths and legends.

It is also listed in CAMRA's National Inventory for its historic interior and recommended by the Good Pub Guide.

The book is available to buy from various websites, including Amazon and Waterstones.
