TWO Ukrainian children living in Salisbury have been able to continue their favourite hobby thanks to support from the Mayor’s chosen charity.
The Mayor of Salisbury, Councillor Tom Corbin chose Children's Chance as his Mayoral charity to support local youngsters. Now, two children from a county nearly 2,000 miles away have been able to continue gymnastics thanks to the charity.
Veronika Mykytiuk, 10, and Yana Mykytiuk, eight, both started gymnastics aged four in the city of Ivano-Frankivsk in Ukraine before the war began. The sisters trained for two hours every day and won numerous medals and so when they were homed in Salisbury it was the one thing they wanted to be able to do.

But without funding lessons were not possible so the family turned to Children's Chance. Consequently, have continued their passion at Five Rivers Leisure Centre. Their father Taras Mykytiuk said the program is exactly the same as in the Ukraine, including free exercises, bars, jump and deck.
The family’s host said: “It means the world to the girls to continue with gymnastics classes in Salisbury. Without Children's Chance they would not be able to carry on and develop. They love their classes and practice all the time.”
The Salisbury-based charity funds recreational, cultural and educational activities for children and young people who would not otherwise have the chance. For more go to childrenschance.co.uk.
