THE cost-of-living crisis and high energy bills is causing concern for many, and so churches and community groups are joining in the Warm Welcome initiative.

Designed to combat the rising costs and social isolation that is becoming more of an issue especially as the weather turns colder, the Salvation Army has adapted its parent and toddler activities to create a safe warm space for those who attend.

Captain Martin Davison of the Salvation Army said: “We wanted to offer a warm space for parents and children in these times when heating your home can be so challenging on a family budget.

“Our Pit Stop setting recognizes a need for a warm place for people to gather and to meet each other during these uncertain times of rising energy costs.”

The Parent Pitstop started last Monday, September 26 and will take place on Mondays from 10am-11.30am. It is a coffee shop style set up with free refreshments for parents so they can socialize while their children play.

Parents, grandparents, and carers are welcome to use the facility based at The Salvation Army Hall on Salt Lane.

Captain Davison added: "We were delighted with the response. We had 12 folk come and shared coffee and social time with their little ones. Today, we had a few more because people had told their friends."

There is no charge for using the facility and no need to book. For more information, email: martin.davison@salvationarmy.org.uk
