MOBILE phones that are past their best may be an annoyance for their owners but they could make the world of difference to children with special needs.

Ringwood and Fordingbridge charity, The Sarah Kinsley Fund, launched a new drive on Tuesday to raise money by collecting old mobile phones that people no longer need or want.

The charity, which funds equipment for children referred to them by medical professionals, kicked off the campaign at Ringwood Library where, along with Fordingbridge Surgery, there will be a collection bin for people to dump phones in any condition to be recycled to raise cash.

Fund chairman Olga Potts said: "If it goes well then we will then look at expanding it to other collection points."

The drive is being done through FoneAid, which supplies groups with the materials they need to launch a campaign and then pays them £3 for each phone they collect, which might otherwise be thrown out or left forgotten in peoples' homes.
