A mum stole a trolley-full of items from Aldi in Salisbury in a “moment of stupidity”, a court heard.
Tira Nicole Cooper, of Odstock Road, Salisbury, pleaded guilty to the charge of theft from a shop when she appeared at Salisbury Magistrates’ Court on Friday, July 22.
Prosecuting, Kate Prince, told the court that on December 23, 2021 staff at the Aldi store on London Road saw a female on CCTV leaving with a trolley full of items and making no attempt to pay.
Court documents state the value of the items was unknown.
The defendant was identified on CCTV and invited for police interview where she said because it was Christmas she needed extra money and had taken the items.
The court heard the 31-year-old had been contacted by police about receiving a caution to deal with the offence but did not answer.
Representing herself, Cooper, said “it was a really silly, spare of the moment thing” and she had gone to the shop with money to pay for the shopping and “didn’t know why” she had done it.
Cooper said money was tight. She explained that it would have given her some extra money following Christmas adding: “It was a moment of stupidity.”
She was given a six-month conditional discharge and ordered to pay a surcharge of £22 and a contribution to court costs of £40.
