A SALISBURY nursery has been showing its passion for reducing its environmental impact - spending the last month reducing its plastic use.
Tops Day Nurseries participated in Plastic Free July where it avoided buying any single-use plastics including food bags, wet wipes, cling film, and carrier bags.
Simon Evans, the senior nursery manager at Tops Day Nurseries, said: “At Tops, we believe it is important to teach the children about looking after our planet, one of the ways we do this is by teaching them about one use plastic and the effect it has on the planet and nature.
“The children are keen to learn about looking after our planet in a fun way and enjoy taking part in a range of different activities.”
Activities included learning to identify sea animals and trying to save them from the ropes and plastics that were entangling them.
Tops Day Nurseries says it also communicates with politicians, manufacturers, retail, and waste handling organisations to make sure its concerns are noted and were the first day nursery chain to achieve B Corp certification.
It was also awarded a Queen’s Award for Enterprise in Sustainable Development.
Called eco-sustainable childcare, it provides early education and care for children aged 3 months to school age and after school or holiday clubs for children aged up to 11 years.
Tops Day Nurseries have nurseries in Salisbury and are onsite at Salisbury District Hospital.
