FOLLOWING Salisbury MP John Glen’s shock resignation from his role in the Treasury, he was back in the House of Commons last night to participate in an important vote.
Yesterday, MPs voted to show they had confidence in her Majesty’s government. MP John Glen voted in favour of Boris Johnson remaining in post until September when the new Prime Minister is elected.
John Glen was one of over 50 government minsters and aides who had resigned in protest of Boris Johnson’s leadership within a 48-hour period.
Following this, Labour party leader Keir Starmer called for a vote of no confidence in the government and Boris Johnson after the Prime Minister had said he would remain in post until the autumn. Defeat would have triggered a general election.
The government ignored Labour’s motion and unusually, tabled a vote of confidence themselves.
The motion passed 349-238.
