AN INITIATIVE designed to bring growers of fruit, vegetables, and flowers together is now in its third season which may help those who are struggling with the cost of living.

The Harnham Harvest Table is a way for gardeners with an excess amount of produce to be able to share it with others rather than produce being wasted.

Tom Blanchard, 68 is a semi-retired agronomist helping with soil and crops and is a co-ordinator of the initiative alongside Greg Condiffe and Charles Woodd.

He said: “The initiative came about when Greg had too many pears on his garden tree so thought why not share the excess? It branched out from there and helps those who cannot get fresh produce.

“We had someone who was growing tomatoes for market but that fell through so the man brought all the tomatoes to us.”

As time progressed, and different fruits and vegetables came into season, Tom began to provide recipes to match the produce on offer.

In April this year, they organised a stall providing seedlings and old garden equipment so that people could learn more about the growing process if they wished and to have a go. They are hoping to also have flowers available too.

The event takes place every Saturday at the Harnham Parish Hall field between 10am and 12pm. People can come along and share their produce or see what fresh produce is available.

There is also a seed exchange available 24/7 at the Harnham Parish Hall and the cabinet is stocked with plenty of seeds.
