A lorry has crashed into a railway bridge on the A36 at Wilton, resulting in a heavy traffic buildup.
The incident happened around midday and debris was left in the road following the crash.
Traffic built up during the afternoon but Wiltshire Police expect the road to be clear by 3.30pm.
A diversion is in place for HGVs and the police are managing other traffic in the area.
A Wiltshire Police spokesman said: “We received a call at around midday regarding an incident where a lorry had collided with a railway bridge on the A36 at Wilton.
“Police are currently at the scene managing a partial road closure while the bridge is assessed.”
A Network Rail spokesperson said: "The line has now returned to normal running.
"There was minor scrapes to the bridge but thankfully it wasn't too serious.
"The debris has been removed and the trains are now able to run normally."
As a result of the crash, Salisbury Reds will not be running its service to South Newton.
