THE MET Office for England and Wales has just issued a rare red warning for the first time ever stating temperatures could reach up to 40C next week.

Yesterday, (July 14) the Met Office stated that exceptional heat is possible for southern and central areas of the UK and today, the predicted temperatures for Salisbury are 35C on Monday and 33C on Tuesday.

The Met Office warns the excessive heatwave could lead to a loss of life.

This is the first time, 40C heats have been predicted in the UK and people are advised to avoid travelling and to keep themselves and others safe.

The Met Office have stated that the current record for the highest temperature was in Cambridge Botanic Garden at 38.7C on July 25, 2019.
