A FALKLANDS War Veteran visited a school in Tidworth recently to commemorate Armed Forces Day.
Simon Weston CBE talked to students at The Wellington Academy about the life-changing injuries he had sustained during the Falklands conflict which commenced 40 years ago.
Rob Wood, senior deputy headteacher, commented: “Our vision for pupils of The Wellington Academy is to produce young adults who are ambitious, inquisitive, and independent, and they demonstrated this with the questions they posed to Simon.
Rob continues: “Simon not only spoke about the horrific injuries, but he also talked about the recovery process and how since that time he has gone on to make the most of every opportunity life has given him. This message of resilience and determination resonated with our students.”
The Combined Cadet Force (CFF) is an important aspect of life at the Wellington Academy and a part of the Royal Wootton Basset Academy Trust.
As a voluntary youth organisation, the CCF is sponsored by the Military of Defence (MoD) and students learn about the Armed Forces and are able to develop their leadership skills.
