MOST of the pancakes landed back in the frying pans - but a few landed on the ground or even in the trees at Breamore Primary School on Tuesday.
After learning about the significance of Shrove Tuesday in the morning, children at the school had great fun in the annual pancake races on the school's netball field, but there was a mathematical side to the races as well.
They had to launch the pancakes into the air only a certain number of times as they ran across the field - their age minus three.
And it wasn't just the children who had fun with the batter - parents and teachers had a race too, although they were excused the mathematical component.
Headteacher Ruth Conway said there were no major accidents with pancakes and the children's skills were at a very high level.
"They love it - they get very excited and it's a lot of fun - and it's upholding old traditions and customs."
