TWO Salisbury men have been ordered to pay £409 for dropping cigarette butts.
Both men threw down, dropped or otherwise deposited litter and left without picking it up in the city centre.
Ali Ozaavi, of Somerset Road, Salisbury, was caught dropping a cigarette butt and leaving it on Minster Street on January 20.
Ozaavi was slapped with a £220 fine, on top of a £34 surcharge to victim services and costs of £155, totalling a £409 payment.
Melvin Balmer, 33, of Mannings Close, Bishopdown, was also issued a £409 bill after he was caught dropping a cigarette butt in the Old George Mall on February 14.
Both cases were heard at Portsmouth Magistrates' Court on Tuesday, May 31.
The verdict was proved by single justice procedure – where a magistrate deals with the case on the basis of the papers alone without either party having to attend court for a hearing.
