COUNCILLORS are planning to spend £48,672 replacing cameras and updating the CCTV system on Salisbury's Friary Estate.
The District Council's cabinet has agreed to recommend that £20,000 of the cost should come from the council's housing revenue capital programme and the rest from the general fund.
Cabinet member for housing Cllr Ian Tomes said the scheme was long overdue as the Friary is part of St Martin's ward, which has the highest crime rate in the city.
"The new cameras will have to be vandal proof," he said.
