SUPPORTERS turned out in force for Salisbury Hospice Charity’s first celebration walk.

The walk, which took place on Saturday, was made up of two routes - one five miles while the other was 10. Both, which started and finished at the Guildhall.

Both routes took walkers past St Thomas’s Church where they were able to light a candle of remembrance.

Events fundraiser Moyra Rowney said: “We are hugely grateful to everyone who took part and supported this event. It was so wonderful to see everyone come together, in support of each other after such a trying few years. We are delighted to be back hosting events and hope to see everyone at our next one, The Ultimate Wessex Country Fair, taking place on August 6 on The Wilton House Estate.”

Participants received a silver birch sapling in lieu of a medal, as a living reminder of whoever or whatever they were celebrating and were also presented with a ribbon that was then tied on to a special remembrance tree in the Guildhall.

So far, the event has raised £15,000 for Salisbury Hospice. Around 200 people took part in the Celebration Walk.

Earlier this month, the Fabulous Family Fun Day at Salisbury Rugby Club raised more than £20,000 - the most ever raised for Salisbury Hospice.

The event, which celebrated its eighth year, is held every year in memory of Lyn Futcher who died from breast cancer.
