IT was a week of sell out shows in Burley as people flocked from far and wide to see the village's hugely popular annual pantomime, which is celebrating its 21st year.

Sinbad the Sailor, performed for a week at the village hall, was sold out for every performance and the months of hard work and rehearsals that went into the show was widely appreciated by those who came to watch.

Director Sandy Simpson said: "It is a lot of hard work but what a lovely way to spend the winter. It is great seeing everyone leave the hall with big smiles on their faces."

The cast and crew have been working on the production since September, with 50 people working behind the scenes to ensure its success as well as the actors treading the boards.

The title role this year went to Ali Shutler, with Princess Yasmin played by Bronte Ansell and Dame Semolina by Paul Berry.

The villain of the piece is the evil magician Vazar, played by Richard Pratt, with Sue Trotter in the role of Mr Mate, Wayne Priestly as Black Hook and Chris Duell as Barracuda.

Children play a big part in the production each year, with youngsters from eight-years-old singing in the chorus and several youngsters taking bigger roles, including nine-year-old Molly White as Monty Monkey and Melissa Barton as the Genie.

Now this year's show is over the cast and crew will be taking a well-earned break, but only for a few months, before rehearsals starts for the next show in September.
