ST GEORGE’S Day was celebrated in Salisbury with a packed programme of fun events for all ages at the weekend.

The events took place Sunday, April 24 in Market Place, Guildhall and Guildhall Square.

The day’s activities started with a short procession of Salisbury City councillors led by mace bearers and a welcome from the mayor.

Visitors were able to enjoy workshops, street food, performances from Morris Dancers, puppet shows, live music, face painting and a free Blue Badge tour.

Wessex Circus also showcased their skills to entertain crowds.

Replicas of St Christopher the Giant and his companion Hobnob could also be seen during the St George’s Day festivities.

There was medieval storytelling in the Guildhall and the Mr Brown’s Pig Puppet Show as well as court room drama as St George and the dragon were put on trial.

The Mayor of Salisbury, Cllr Caroline Corbin said: “We had a great time celebrating our patron Saint, St George at the celebration event on Sunday April 24.

“Thank you to everyone who came along and enjoyed the free entertainment including the medieval storytelling, Morris Dancers, live music and craft workshops.

“Thank you also to those who took part and helped to organise such a fun day.

“It was fantastic to see so many people there and I’m already looking forward to next year’s event.”

Salisbury and South Wilts Scout District also held its St George’s Day parade which started from Choristers Green in the Cathedral Close before making its way along High Street and into St Thomas’s Church where a service and renewal of the Scouting Promises took place.

The parade was led by the Royal British Legion Band followed by representatives from the 17 Scout groups in the district.
