THE Queen’s awards for enterprise have been announced today with two businesses based in Salisbury recognised in the sustainable development category.

Tops Day Nursery is based at Salisbury District Hospital and the company employs 750 people in 32 nurseries across the South Coast.

The nursery is one of 226 organisations to be recognised with this prestigious award and they were given the award due to an inspirational approach and driving force for change within this sector.

Cheryl Hadland, founder and managing director challenges industry norms when it comes to disposable items and single-use plastics – items including gloves, and nappies.

She said, “We are truly delighted and proud to achieve this award, despite suffering the crippling impact of covid, and even worse, the under-funding of early years provision in this country in recent years.

“Early years educators provide the foundations for today’s children to be able to run the country tomorrow, and we believe that an essential part of that is showing our empathy and respect for our environment and all people, animals and plants within it, showing the best example we can for our children to follow.”

Ward Williams Associates – WWA have seven offices in total including an office in Blakey Road, Salisbury. They also received a prestigious Queen’s Award for Enterprise in sustainable development.

WWA Senior Partner, Andy Snapes, comments: “Receiving this accolade is an incredible honour. It is the highest possible recognition of our team’s commitment to being a responsible business and celebrates the passion that is so intrinsic to our culture.

“We believe in using ‘business as a force for good’ and in considering the impact of our decisions on the wellbeing of our staff, customers, suppliers, community, and the environment. We are proud to be a catalyst for real and lasting change in our industry.”

The Queen’s Awards for Enterprise are the most prestigious of business awards in the country and is now its 56th year.

Categories include sustainable development, international trade, innovation and promoting opportunity through social mobility.

Winners are given an official Grant of Appointment – which is an official certificate. They also have a commemorative crystal trophy.

They will be invited to a royal reception and their award will be presented by one of the Queen’s representatives and can use the Queen’s Awards Emblem and fly the awards flag at their main office for five years.
