Fordingbridge Museum is appealing to the public for items or memories of royal jubilees in the town.

It is putting together a new exhibition to celebrate the Queen's Platinum Jubilee in June.

Museum manager Jane Ireland said: “Previous Jubilees celebrations in Fordingbridge to commemorate the anniversaries of Queen Elizabeth’s accession to the throne have been marked by the roasting of a whole ox, street parties, illuminations, music events and beacons being lit.

“Unfortunately, the museum does not have any artefacts relating to these events. There must be many people who attended these celebrations and have photographs or items that they could make available to the museum so that an exhibition could be put together.

“We would also like to hear from anyone who would be willing to share their recollections of attending or taking part in them.”

Anything made available to the museum would be carefully looked after and returned to the owner.

A free community celebration will take place at the Recreation Ground on Thursday June 2.

The Jubilee Picnic in the Park is being held by the town council in conjunction with Fordingbridge Events Group.

A special Fordingbridge Jubilee beacon will also be put on display and officially lit during the event.

On February 6, the Queen became the first British monarch to celebrate a Platinum Jubilee, marking 70 years on the throne.

The celebrations in the town will take place on Thursday June 2.
