The number of Covid patients at Salisbury District Hospital remains "high" as another virus death is recorded.

A woman in her 90s who had tested positive for coronavirus died on Wednesday March 9.

She had underlying health conditions.

Her death brings the hospital's Covid death toll since the pandemic began to 256.

In a statement the hospital said "a high number" of Covid patients remain on site - 39 as of today (March 11).

The statement added: "We would ask the public to remain cautious and to take appropriate precautions to avoid transmission.

"Although the government has lifted restrictions, the hospital’s COVID-19 measures remain in place until further notice.

"We remind visitors to the hospital that they must wear a face mask when in the hospital and have a negative lateral flow test before entering the buildings. They should not visit if they have any symptoms of COVID-19.

"In addition, with the current levels of COVID-19 still in our community, people should take up the invitation for a COVID-19 vaccine when offered. It is never too late to get a first vaccine.”
