RESIDENTS are invited to have their say on a new play area in Salisbury.
The Environment Agency and Salisbury City Council are designing a new play area for Ashley Road Open Space as the existing one needs to be removed to allow for construction work on the Salisbury River Park scheme.
A new and improved, larger play area will be constructed on Ashley Road Open Space to replace the one being removed.
Changes will also be made to the Fisherton Recreation Ground. The multi-use games area will be replaced with a new facility, and there is the opportunity for additional outdoor exercise equipment to be installed.
The Environment Agency is working with Salisbury City Council to determine what new equipment should be installed in the new play area, and they would like your ideas on how the new features could look and function.
The removal of the current play area, the consultation website states, is likely to be in May/June 2022, to "make the necessary space for a temporary construction access route to construct the flood defences".
The replacement play area will then be built in summer/autumn 2023.
A consultation website has been launched at salisburyriverparkphase1.com/playpark which contains information on the proposed works and a short questionnaire.
The consultation is due to run until 31st March.
A statement issued by the Environment Agency said: "The team working on the project would like as many people as possible to complete this survey to help them design the area to provide the maximum benefit to all."
A printed version of the consultation material can be provided on request, or collected from the Guildhall.
To obtain this, or to find out more about this project the team can be contacted on riverpark@environment-agency.gov.uk.
The Salisbury River Park scheme is a partnership project between the Environment Agency, Wiltshire Council and Salisbury City Council.
Construction is due to start later this year and once complete will reduce flood risk for more than 350 homes and businesses in Salisbury as well as recreational improvements and creating green spaces.
