A FLY-TIPPER has been fined £400 after dumping a sofa in a communal area.

The resident from The Friary in Salisbury, who Wiltshire Council says cannot be named for legal reasons, was issued the notice after reports were made to enforcement officers about the furniture.

Officers interviewed the resident under caution about the offence, and after presented with evidence, they confessed.

This resulted in the £400 fixed penalty notice.

Dr Mark McClelland, cabinet member for transport and waste, said: “As this case highlights, we take all reports of fly-tipping seriously and will fully investigate them.

"Where we can find sufficient evidence, we will issue fixed penalty notices or, in more serious cases, prosecute the perpetrators.

“We will not tolerate fly-tipping in Wiltshire, and our dedicated environmental enforcement team will continue to do all they can to track down and take action against fly-tippers.”

Residents can report fly-tipping and unauthorised waste carriers using the MyWilts app, calling 0300 4560100 or on the Wiltshire Council website.
