The Covid case rate in nearly a third of all Wiltshire areas is higher than the UK average as cases increase across Wiltshire. 

There were 4,339 Covid cases recorded in Wiltshire for the week up to January 20 which is an increase of 10.7% from the seven days leading up to January 19, according to the government coronavirus dashboard.

The Wiltshire case rate for the seven days leading up to January 20 was at 860.8 per 100,000 people, which is lower than the UK average of 938.2 cases per 100,000 people for this period. 

However in 20 Wiltshire areas, the case rate was higher than the UK average, and some areas have seen huge increases in cases. 

Here are the top ten Covid hotspots in Wiltshire, and the five areas where cases increased by 50% or more in the latest data.

10 Covid Hotspots in Wiltshire

The case rate is a good indicator of how much a particular area has been impacted as it takes into account the number of Covid cases in relation to population size. 

These 10 areas had the highest number of Covid cases per 100,000 people in Wiltshire (figure included in brackets). 

  1. Durrington and Bulford (1557.6)
  2. Tidworth and Ludgershall (1435.6)
  3. Trowbridge North (1343.9)
  4. Salisbury Bemerton (1283.9)
  5. Laverstock, Bodenham & Coombe Bissett (1221.8)
  6. Trowbridge East (1218.8)
  7. Trowbridge West (1208.3)
  8. Royal Wootton Bassett Town (1188.3)
  9. Salisbury Churchfields (1182.3)
  10. Salisbury Bishopsdown (1134.6)

 

Areas with the highest increase in Covid cases 

Some areas have seen significant changes in the number of cases in the latest period, five areas seeing an increase in Covid cases of 50% or over. 

This suggests a local wave of infections between the seven day period up to January 13 and the seven day period up to January 20. 

  1. Potterne & Rowde - 85.4% increase in cases
  2. Downton & Morgan's Vale - 76.9% increase in cases
  3. Trowbridge North - 60.7% increase in cases 
  4. Trowbridge West - 59.5% increase in cases
  5. Salisbury Bishopsdown - 50% increase in cases
