If you are caught with drugs you can be punished under the Misuse of Drugs Act 1971.

This is in place to prevent the misuse of controlled drugs, and bans the possession, supply, manufacture, import and export of illegal substances.

These cases were heard in Salisbury Magistrates' Court within the last three months. 

The Journal publishes this information in the public interest. 

KIM LOUISE LIGHT, 48, of Heath Road, Salisbury, was caught at Old Sarum in Wiltshire both in possession of cannabis and a quantity of amphetamine that went against the Misuse of Drugs Act 1971.

She indicated a guilty plea to both charges at Salisbury Magistrates Court on November 26, 2021. The crimes were committed on October 20, 2020.

Light was fined £80 for each possession offence, £160 in total, and paid an additional £34 to victim services and £85 to the Crown Prosecution Service bringing the total bill to £279.

The cannabis is to be forfeited and destroyed. 

VICTOR JAMES BURRELL, 36, of Ivy Street, Salisbury, was caught with cannabis and a quantity of pregabalin that went against the Misuse of Drugs Act 1971 on November 19, 2021 in Salisbury. 

Burrell indicated a guilty plea at Salisbury Magistrates' Court on December 6 and was fined £80 for the possession of cannabis, with no separate punishment for the other possession offence. 

The cannabis and pregablin were to be forfeited and destroyed.

He had to pay £34 in victim services and £45 to the Crown Prosecution Service bringing the total bill to £159. 

WILLIAM MCCLURE, 19, of Napier Crescent, Laverstock, was caught drink driving and in possession of cocaine on July 31, 2021. 

He pleaded guilty to driving a VW polo on South Western Road in Salisbury when the level of alcohol in his blood exceeded the legal limit.

McClure also indicated a guilty plea to being in possession cocaine, which went against the Misuse of Drugs Act 1971.  

The case was heard at Salisbury Magistrates' Court on October 12, 2021, and McClure was fined £415 for drink driving and £100 for possession. 

He had to pay an additonal £42 to victim services and £85 to the Crown Prosecution Service bringing the total to £642. 

For drink driving, McClure was also disqualified from holding a driving licence for 17 months which can be reduced by 17 weeks if by September 12, 2022, he completes a course approved by the Secretary of State.

The cocaine is to be forfeited and destroyed.
