Covid case rates have sky rocketed across the country, and Wiltshire is no exception.

Yesterday 194,747 daily cases were recorded in the UK, with 911 Covid patients in ventilator beds as of January 4. 

Since New Years Eve, 2568 new Covid cases were recorded in Wiltshire according to Public Health data recorded up to January 5.

What is the Covid picture in my area?

 

The latest case rate for Wiltshire, which uses data from the seven days leading up to December 31, stands at 1200.6 cases per 100,000 people. 

This is double the Wiltshire case rate in mid-december, when it stood at 564.4.

It is however lower than the UK case rate for the seven days leading up December 31 which was at 1725.

There were 6052 Covid cases confirmed in Wiltshire during this period, an increase of 32.7% from the previous seven day period recorded. 

This means that roughly two in every 157 people in Wiltshire had Covid between Christmas Eve and New Years Eve, calculated using 2021 census population data. 

Today, January 6, Salisbury hospital had 12 Covid positive patients as of 08.15am and reported that staff absences across the hospital continue to rise. 

There are still over 200 staff absent due to sickness, approximately 50% of those cases due to Covid.

The worst affected areas for total Covid cases recorded in Wiltshire were Tidworth and Ludgershall, with 258 cases recorded, and Corsham, Bowden Hill & Lacock with 207 total cases. 

Lydiard Millicent & Purton had the highest case rate at 1707.4, which takes into account the population size.

Corsham, Bowden Hill & Lacock had the highest amount of new cases at 92, with Devizes East following closely at 91. 

Cases went up in all but seven out of the 62 areas in Wiltshire, with cases going down in: Salisbury Stratford; Chippenham Pewsham; Sutton Benger, Kington & Biddestone; Whaddon, Whiteparish & Winterslow; Staverton; Bradford-on-Avon; and Downton & Morgan's Vale.
