A WOMAN in her 70s died at Salisbury District Hospital yesterday due to a Covid-19 infection.

This brings the total number of patients that have died at the hospital after testing positive for the virus to 233, since the start of the pandemic.

Also yesterday, December 30, it was revealed that a man in his 70s had passed away at the hospital on December 23, also from a Covid-19 infection.

Salisbury NHS Foundation Trust has confirmed there are currently 15 Covid-19 positive patients being treated at the hospital.

A trust spokesperson said: “We are sorry to report that on Thursday, December 30, a woman in her 70s passed away due to Covid-19 infection.

"Our thoughts are with her friends and family at this difficult time."

The trust is also urging the public to continue supporting the vaccine roll out and to "remain cautious and take appropriate precautions to avoid transmission".

This includes wearing a mask in crowds and good hand hygeine.

"People should take up the invitation for a Covid-19 vaccine when offered," the spokesperson said.

"It is never too late to get a first vaccine. Covid-19 booster vaccinations are also available for those who are eligible.”
