MORE THAN 3,000 people in Wiltshire test positive for Covid-19 as the government refuses to rule out increased Christmas restrictions.

In the last seven days, 3,038 people have tested positive for Covid in the county.

The previous week’s data shows 2,625 recorded cases of the virus. This means there was a 15.7 per cent rise in cases.

The seven-day case rate per 100,000 people in Wiltshire now stands at 602.7. Last week the same figure was at 522.7.

However, for the first time in weeks the case rates have dipped below the England average – which stands at 736.4.

On Twitter, Wiltshire Council wrote: “Case numbers have increased this week in Wiltshire, please play your part to stop the spread of the virus.”

According to Deputy Prime Minister, Dominic Raab, the government “can’t make hard, fast guarantees” that there will not be a Christmas lockdown.

This comes as it was reported that 91,743 Covid cases were reported across the UK.

Since the beginning of the roll out of the booster or third dose agenda 249,782 (53.4 per cent) Wiltshire residents have taken up the offer.

In Wiltshire 414,543 (88.6 per cent) people over the age of 12 have received their first dose of a Covid vaccine. While 385,008 (82.3 per cent) have received their second dose.
