Here are the Covid hotspots in Wiltshire, in the face of the new highly transmissive Omicron variant. 

Covid cases are increasing in Wiltshire as the UK recorded its highest weekly case rate so far this year on December 14, 2021.

Between Friday, December 17, and Sunday, December 19, 898 more positive Covid test results were recorded in Wiltshire bringing the total of positive test results since the pandemic started to 70,867 according to Public Health figures.

Although the latest information on Omicron cases in Wiltshire is unchanged from December 10, when we were told there were 2 cases in the county, the number of Omicron cases being confirmed in the South West is doubling every two days. 

Here is a breakdown of the latest Covid data for your local area, and the top ten Covid Hotspots in Wiltshire as per the most up-to-date figures.

Latest Covid figures, December 14, for local Wiltshire areas

Covid cases went up in 37 out of the 62 Middle Super Output Areas in Wiltshire, in the seven days leading up to December 14 which is the latest Public Health data for MSOAs. 

During this time period 2845 new Covid cases were recorded in Wiltshire, a 8.6% increase from the week prior, and the case rate was at 564.4 per 100,000 people. 

The case rate in the UK was at 646 per 100,000 people for this period, which is the highest case rate recorded this year, 2021. 

Durrington & Bulford had the highest case rate in Wiltshire at 1339.6 which is over double the UK average rate of 646 for this period.

The most affected areas for new cases were: Royal Wootton Bassett Outer & Lyneham, where Covid cases went up by 41; Tidworth & Ludgershall where cases went up by 30; and Durrington & Bulford where cases went up by 24.

Tidworth & Ludgershall had the highest total cases at 120, Larkhill, Shrewton & Bulford Camp had the second highest with 113 total cases, and Amesbury recorded the third highest with 91 total cases.

  2. Sutton Benger, Kington & Biddestone (1013.6)
  3. Larkhill, Shrewton & Bulford Camp (1000.4)
  4. Box, Colerne & Rudloe (979.7)
  5. Great Wishford, Woodford Valley & Porton (764.1)
  6. Derry Hill & Hilmarton (764.0)
  7. Bedwyn, Burbage & Collingbourne (761.1)
  8. Amesbury (721.9)
  9. Pewsey & Lockeridge (706.0)
  10. Chippenham North (658.0)

What does Covid case rate mean and how are areas defined?

The case rate takes into account the population size of an area in regard to new cases, providing an image of the extent to which one area is impacted.
