An application for a 5G mast near Salisbury has been rejected by Wiltshire Council due to "significant" local opposition.

The application (Ref: PL/2021/10342) was for a new 22-metre mast on land at White House Farm, Grimstead Road in East Grimstead.

The decision, issued yesterday (December 15), was that the application was refused due to "significant local objection".

The council considered that the development required prior approval, which was refused.

The proposed site is located in a prominent location within the Special Landscape Area, and the plans did not include a landscape visual impact assessment or a detailed assessment of alternative sites considered.

Therefore, the council concluded that it would likely "have an significant adverse landscape impact on the character of the Special Landscape Area, and to the general amenity of the area".

The proposal was for a Proposed Based Installation including Mast, antennas, dishes, cabinetry and all ancillary development.

Plans included a 20-metre high lattice mast with three antennas (22 metres overall), two 300mm dishes, one cabinet (1896x798x1648mm), one meter cabinet, plus all ancillary development.

The application was submitted for and on behalf of Cornerstone, a mobile infrastructure services company.
