A MAN was jailed for nearly a year following a spree of thefts and driving offences in Salisbury.

Earlier this year Robert James Boyt, of Lower Buckland Road, Lymington, entered Reeve the Baker in the city centre with intent to steal.

On the same day, October 14, he failed to pay £10 for fuel.

During a Swindon Magistrates' court hearing on October 16, Boyt pleaded guilty to stealing a Toyota Yaris belonging to a man in Lymington, which he then drove through Salisbury while disqualified from driving.

He also confessed not having the appropriate policy of insurance.

Boyt was caught with the vehicle along Blue Boar Row, also on October 14.

A 44-week jail sentence was given to the 32-year-old due to the nature of the offences, previous offending history, and because of the use of a screwdriver and ransacking.

As well as prison, Boyt was ordered to pay a victim surcharge of £156, costs of £85 and compensation of £10.

He was disqualified from driving for 18 months.
