A rail travel update after the double crash in Salisbury resulted in the part closure of major routes will be given 'soon'.

The double train crash in Salisbury caused significant damage to the railway infrastructure between Salisbury Station Junction and Fisherton Tunnel where the collision happened on October 31.

Today, London Road reopened for pedestrians and motorists after the crane used to remove the train carriages from the tracks was 'demobilised and taken away' and repairs to the tracks are underway.

Network Rail tweeted today: "We’re sorry again for the disruption to our customers and the community."

"And the works to repair the track and signalling infrastructure are well underway."

After the final carriage was lifted from the tracks on Sunday, Network Rail said they expected to replace 1,456 sleepers, three sets of points, the moveable rails, 1,010 yards of new track and a 3km cable for signalling and power suply as part of their repair work.

Today they shared a picture of the repair work from yesterday, and tweeted: "We hope to be able to share more news with you soon about when the railway can reopen."

The projected date for rail service disruptions resulting from the Salisbury train crash to end is currently November 15.
