FIFTY years ago Christmas came to Salisbury early with a special visitor.
On October 30, 1971 - before Halloween - Father Christmas came to the city centre to spread some festive cheer.
These pictures, from the depths of the Journal archives, show the Christmas celeb stood high above crowds on Blue Boar Row, specifically where Style and Gerrish used to be, waving down at shoppers, families and children in the Market Place.
