PLANS for a new church and day nursery are set to be discussed next week.
The Living Grace Ministry want to build a church big enough for 150 worshippers, with a cloakroom, a toilet, kitchen, vestry and storage, as well as a church office and interview area, and a small meeting/function room.
Seventeen car parking spaced and 18 cycle spaces would also be provided.
It would be built on land adjacent to The Bowman Centre on Shears Drive.
'Growing faith group'
The ministry is a growing faith group "requiring a church for 150 people that can provide hospitality".
The planning statement adds that they also need a day care nursery to meet the government requirements for 25 children.
The group currently meets in The Bowman Centre.
It adds: "This is a young community and there is a Children’s Day Care facility operating in the Bowman Centre nearby caring for up to 40 children.
"The Bowman Centre has some very small meeting rooms and a single large hall. The group is oversubscribed and there are plans to move into a purpose built building on an adjacent site offering 60 child places.
However with such a young community with further new housing planned in and around Amesbury, additional nursery places are required encouraged by central governments funded pre-school places.
The mission statement states that there will be three mid-evening meetings during the week with a single Sunday midday service.
It is noted the Bowman Centre car park is used for drop off for the nursery held there, first thing in the morning and is empty for the remainder of the day.
This will be displaced once the new adjacent nursery facility is built.
The proposed pre-school nursery will be in daily use during week days and does not clash with church services or meetings.
The Southern Area Planning Committee will meet at Salisbury Guildhall next Thursday at 3pm.
