A business on Salisbury Plain has seen a record number of young adults join the company this summer after receiving funding from a government scheme.
Aspire Defence Services Limited (ADSL), a facilities management company based at Garrisons on Salisbury Plain and Aldershot, has employed 18 new starters as part of the Government’s Kickstart Scheme that funds employers for hiring 16–24-year-olds on Universal Credit.
Brook Smith, 21, who joined ADSL on a temporary contract as a Kickstarter in March said “When the chance to join ADSL originally came up, I saw it as an exciting opportunity to develop and begin a new career in something new.
“There’s been a lot to learn, and the support from ADSL and my colleagues has been terrific.
He was recently offered a full-time contract at Larkhill Garrison due to great performance.
Brook commented, “I am delighted that I now have a permanent role after an uncertain time, and this wouldn’t have been possible if it wasn’t for the Government Kickstart Scheme.”
ADSL Human Resources Director Sundae Spiers said the scheme had discovered “extremely talented individuals” and offered hope to young adults in the area.
She added, “ADSL wholeheartedly supports the Government Kickstart Scheme, and I am delighted by the progress and enthusiasm shown by the Kickstarters.
“Many of those who have joined may have experienced bad luck or misfortune in their careers - but their arrival has been a breath of fresh air, and they have made a positive impact on the business.”
The young adult’s roles range from Administration, Valeting, Stores Assistance, HR Administration, IT Customer Support and Media Services.
