In preparation for National Hospitality Day today, our readers told us which local restaurants they love the most and why.
Over the pandemic, restaurants and local businesses have been hit particularly hard, so this national day is a great opportunity to let them know how much they are appreciated.
Here is a list of reader’s favourite restaurants where you can get a quality meal at the same time as supporting the local community.
Café Diwali, Salisbury
Price Range: ££-£££
Location: 90 Crane St
Indian street food restaurant Café Diwali, on Crane Street, was recommended with Jo Coleman suggesting it for its “Gorgeous food”.
Opened by Indian born chef Muhammed Rasheed, the restaurant has received six awards in its five years of being open.
Nole Sourdough Pizza
Price range: £-££
Locations: 4 Butcher Row and Pembroke Arms Hotel, Minster St
Nole’s Sourdough Pizza was recommended, Nicola Maria Browning commenting on how they’d started up over lockdown and have nice outdoor seating.
They have three locations now, at Butcher Row (the square) in Salisbury, The Pembroke Arms in Wilton, and the Grosvenor Arms in Hendon.
Grillado
Price: ££-£££
Location: 68 Castle St.
Family-run Italian restaurant Grillado, on Castle Street, prides itself on ‘simplicity’, relying on “the quality of our ingredients rather than on elaborate preparation”.
This was one of the most reccomended restaurants by our readers.
Anokaa, Salisbury
Price Range: ££-£££
Location: 60 Fisherton St
Contemporary Indian Cuisine restaurant Anokaa, on Fisherton Street, has been in Salisbury for nearly 20 years.
According to the Michelin Guide, this restaurant is, “A smart Indian restaurant that’s a little different, with colour-changing lights and interesting water features.”
Giggling Squid
Price range: ££-£££
Location: 32 Market Walk
Thai food restaurant, Giggling Squid, based in Phoenix Buildings on Market Place, was recommended with Danny Burton commenting “The food never fails to hit the spot”.
The Giggling Squid is family owned, and their goal is to make customers ‘feel at home in our funny, quirky little restaurants’.
The Chapter House
Price range: ££-£££
Location: 9-13 St John's St.
Hotel, pub and restaurant, The Chapter House, prides itself on being situated in the spot where the stone for Salisbury Cathedral was cut.
According to their website, the initial construction is almost 800 years old with some of the original stone and ironwork still exposed inside the property.
Jack Bryant commented it is, “hands down the best”. They serve traditional pub foods.
Thai Sarocha
Price range: ££
Location: 71 New St.
Opened in 2008, this modern Thai Resturant which prides itself on being 'in the shadow of Salisbury's centrepiece Cathedral was reccomended.
They serve Thai fusion-food, and offer home delivery.
Samantha948 on Tripadvisor commented "This was a little gem we found online, our hotel could not accommodate us due to a wedding, not happy, but our evening was made complete by this restaurant, amazing."
Allium
Price range: ££££
Location: 6-7 Ox Row
This independent, family-run resturant is rated number one in Salisbury on trip advisor so it is not a surprise it came reccomended.
Offering British cuisine and fine-dining, Allium had a 99% five star rating on Trip Advisor at the time of writing.
Sarah Budden on tripadvisor commented: "Lovely birthday evening, made to feel very special. Roxy and Tim really know what they’re doing. Will be back for sure".
