There are few people who look forward to visiting the doctor, but according to an annual survey there are some GP practices in Salisbury that residents have a much better experience with than others.
Participants in the 2021 GP Patient Survey carried out by Ipsos MORI for NHS England were asked a variety of questions about their experience at their local practice.
Here are the most and least highly rated GP practices for overall patient experience in and around Salisbury based on the results.
Overall patient experience
Hindon Surgery was Salisbury’s joint-highest rated GP practice for overall experience with 98% of 166 residents surveyed having a good experience, which is much higher than the national average of 83%.
An impressive 100% of residents found it easy to reach their GP by phone, and 89% would usually get to see or speak to their preferred GP when they would like which is much higher than the national average of 50%.
The Orchard Partnership in Wilton and Tisbury Surgery also had the joint-highest overall experience rating in Salisbury of 98%, both scoring better than average in every question.
Barcroft Medical Centre in Amesbury was Salisbury's lowest rated GP Patient Surgery for overall experience, with 80% of 130 residents surveyed having a good experience.
Only 28% of respondents at Barcroft Medical Centre got to speak to their preferred GP, and 53% of respondents found it easy to get through to their GP practice by phone.
In Wiltshire as a whole, Park Lane Practice in Swindon was the worst GP practice for overall resident experience with only 57% percent describing their experience as good and 7% able to speak to their preferred GP when they would like.
It is notable that the response rate in this area was 38%, which is lower than the national average of 48% with only 170 completing a survey out of 443 surveys distributed.
Mere Surgery in Warminster had the best rating in the whole of the NHS Bath and North East Somerset, Swindon and Wiltshire (BSW) CCG area with 100% of the 156 residents who completed the survey having a good experience at the practice.
In BSW CCG area, 87% of survey participants rated their experiences at their local GP’s as good or very good which is much higher than the national average and a slight improvement from last year’s results.
