A TEMPORARY interactive sculpture in the heart of Salisbury, which has been viewed by more than 90,000 people, has now found a permanent home.

Created by artist Tim Scrace, This Too Will Pass has been an eye catching installation in Salisbury City Centre since its arrival in May, encouraging passers-by to chalk messages on to its surface.

The artwork, currently in High Street, celebrates the themes of movement and reflection and incorporates hand-selected stones from Salisbury Cathedral’s works yard.

Made from polished stainless steel, recycled paper and local Chilmark stone, the sculpture is in three parts and people are encouraged to move between them to stop and reflect.

This Too Will Pass was due to bid farewell to the city next week, but it has been confirmed that the sculpture will now be retained in Old Fire Station, Salt Lane.

Past, present and future

Responding to the success of the artwork, Tim said: "It has been amazing and so exciting to see the response to the sculpture.

"I just always really wanted people to stop and use the time to consider what we want to remember from the past, where we are at currently and what do we wish to change for the future."

Week of workshops

Coinciding with the arrival of the artwork at Old Fire Station, the artist's IGNITE event will be bringing a week of conversations, workshops and networking for creative businesses to the same venue from August 2 until 6.

Spearheaded by Tim, the aim of IGNITE is to create a space for freelancers and creatives to share what they are passionate about.

The week will kick off with a series of short talks from local creative entrepreneurs and artists, as well as seminars, Pecha Kucha, painting, architectural workshops, 'micro' digital drinks hosted by Blueflame Digital, a branding workshop by Pavement, podcasts, and a 'private view to works' by Tim himself.

Exploring creativity

Tim added: "Through digital, virtual, visual and social medias and without agenda, IGNITE is an open forum set up to explore themes of creativity: in emerging working patterns, enterprise, technology, divergent thinking and changing pathways.

"Fostering a mini creative takeover of the Enterprise Network, IGNITE offers a light touch opportunity to meet and re-evaluate."

Access to the events will be limited, but plans are in place for a live stream or virtual connection to festivities.
