Today (Friday June 4) is National Fish and Chip Day - and what better way to mark the occasion than by reminding ourselves of the tasty fish and chips we can get right here in Salisbury.
The national event, celebrating one of our favourite meals, is acknowledged right across the UK.

Greengages
This family-run cafe on Catherine Street might not be your obvious choice for fish and chips but according to a Tripadvisor review, it serves "the best gluten-free fish and chips ever".
Another reviewer said: "We had the fish & chips which arrived piping hot. The fish was superb, no skin or bones and the tartare and peas were delicious."
Market Inn
"Delicious", "mouth-watering" and "fabulous" is how some reviewers describe fish and chip dishes at the Market Inn, in Salisbury Market Place.
"[I] had fabulous fish and chips, cooked to perfection and served with tartare sauce, mushy peas and plenty of it, defo be going back!!", one said.
Another one added: "The nicest chips I have had for a long time and delicious fish coated in tempura-type thin crisp batter was mouth-watering."
The Chapter House
The Chapter House on St John's Street is another must-visit according to Tripadvisor.
One reviewer said their fish and chips was "beautifully cooked, soft and full of flavour".
"I had the fish and chips and my husband had the steak and chips, both were very tasty and portions plentiful," said another one.
Frying Tuck Fish & Chip Van
This Salisbury-based fish and chips van serves villages and housing estates around Wiltshire.
"What a find!", one reviewer said. "Absolutely lovely fresh fish in a very light batter with gorgeous chips."
"Best Fish and Chips we have had, always cooked fresh to order and ready to collect in a box. I highly recommend them," said another one.
Yew Tree Inn
This popular pub in the village of Odstock supplied fish and chips to the entire village one Friday night in May last year, after a mystery man paid for all 269 meals.
One reviewer said: "Probably the second best fish and chips I have ever tasted after the Spanish city Whitley bay. Awesome. Keep doing what you are doing. It's amazing."
Other reviewers also praised their fish and chips takeaways saying it's "as good as any shop bought".
Wig and Quill
"Lovely food and good price" is the most popular verdict from diners at The Wig and Quill on New Street.
"Thoroughly enjoyed our evening here, both of us chose fish and chips, they arrived quickly and were piping hot and tasted great, the fish was large with lovely crispy batter," one reviewer said.
Cosy Club
Cosy Club on New Street offers "the best plantbased fish and chips", according to a vegetarian reviewer.
"Large fish, crispy batter and fab chips in a little pot" was the verdict for another one.
The Old Ale and Coffee House
This popular pub in Crane Street is said to serve "scrumptious" fish and chips - "thick, crispy batter and chunky chips".
Another reviewer said they had "possibly the best fish and chips ever" and they will be returning.
